Hot take for the possibility of young Mike, Will, and Jonathan flashbacks.

Please please PLEASE do not do the cgi thing again. We had a young Max in a scene and it was fine. We had that young Eleven with the young Kali in season 2 and that was fine. It’s suspension of disbelief. I get it for any flashbacks of 12 year old Will because we saw him on screen before but PLEASE just let them be little kids that look like them I’m begging. I’m so sorry but I hate the cgi El😭

i was going to make a post telling yall to stop calling godzilla minus one a low-budget film (because it isn't) but then i remembered disney regularly drops 12 million for ONE EPISODE of their shows without nearly the same cultural impact so. yeah godzilla is low-budget as far as i'm concerned idc

#uhhhh me #film budget is such an interesting thing to think abt #for those curious: godzilla had a budget of 10 million #which seems like a lot until you compare it to an average hollywood action movie which is like. 100 million easy #incidentally that is oppenheimer's budget!#so seeing that you go wow! why the discrepency?#as far as i can figure. american movies go for the big mass appeal so they'll out more money into international releases etc #whereas japanese films only rly care about domestic release so they save a stupid amount of money there #(i'm sure there's more to this and i have my theories but i don't have hard data rn to back it up so i won't say it)#so anyway. 10 mil is a very modest budget by hollywood standards but by japan standards it's above average actually #oh yeah the other thing about budgets i always come back to #is the fact the percy jackson show had 12 million per episode #but did not look or feel nearly as good as shadow and bone which had average 4 mil per episode. literally a third what percy had #the allegiant movie had an estimated ~120 mill budget and somehow was worse in every single way than the scorch trials movie #which had 61 mil. HALF what allegiant had and yet literally everything about it was more pleasing #one of my fave sci-fi films prospect has less than 4 mil budget and yes you could tell the cgi was unreal sometimes #it was done in a way that looked artistic instead of cheap and glossy #and i would watch that over whatever new movie the mcu pops out with like. 200 mil budget that somehow looks uglier-#-than a movie on 4 mil #oh my god what in the fucking world. antman 3 had 300 million. whomst.#and the movie didn't even look good? the audacity #7 times prospect's budget and looks like shit #anyway. budget is a weird thing #it rly comes down to who's handling the project and how smartly they use that money #oh ya the other thing i was gonna say is i do think there's a difference between 'low budget film' and 'film with a lower budget'#i think godzilla is a lower budget film (comparatively to hollywood) but not a low budget film. if you catch my drift.

this may be something i might change my mind about later, but i don't actually Hate artificially generated aesthetic pictures that are like "fungus themed couch" "art noveau inspired camera" "stained glass bathtub" "gothic style platic chairs" or "really fancy sky" tbh. like i think there's lots of room for playing around with ideas and concepts using - applying some good faith here - public domain source photos or otherwise ethically/consensually acquired images. what DOES drive me up the wall is that every time i come across a set of pictures like that there's NO mention that it's artificially created. sometimes there's no source listed at all, which is really common for ~*Aesthetic Pictures*~ anyway. what's worse is when it's like, [Name Of Creator, Name of Collection, 2023] as if it's a legitimate art exhibit, with no mention of the program used to create the pics. that's actually pretty upsetting - the underhandedness of it all. ugh.

#my general current opinion is that i have nothing against ai as tools in and of itself #my big problem is that we live in a capitalist hellscape where the powers that be and the general population has no respect for craftmanshi #and all the problems artists already experience are exuberated by AI and how it's being used so far #you can't??? replace artists with AI?????? that is fundamentally misunderstanding what an artist does #it's not to Create Something Pretty it's to Create Something With Intention #'once AI can generate a movie it's over' an AI could only create an extremely bland and formulaic movie #like a marvel superhero movie or a disney live action remake. which are created by exploiting CGI labour and pumping out content constantly #an algorithm could never create everything everywhere all at once or undertale or something that has anything to say #(fun fact there's a recent scandal in norwegian schools where they made fake poems by a fake poet for english exams for students to analyse #and the poems are SO BAD the english teachers thought they were created by AI. they are ALLEGEDLY written by a real person but the problem #is the Exact Same as if it had been artificially created. it's a fucking venn diagram. it's a lack of respect for craft #and lacking workers rights.)#sorry about this the discourse is exhausting and i try to avoid it #people kept sending me the fungi couch :( i really like the fungi couch :(

The whole "cGi iS rUinInG mOvIeS" is so wild to me because like. I'm a HUGE proponent of practical effects. I mean, I'm a theatre worker and moreover a props artist, practical effects is what I do. But it really bothers me when I see pro-Practical FX people proping up practical effects by shitting on CGI. Both have their place in film and we can prop up one without demonizing an entire profession.

#and before anyones like “really?? coming from a *marvel* blog??” like yeah. i know Marvel relies too much on cgi. im not fucking blind #i just think that we can have it both ways and it feels especially bad when the reason cgi has beomg used so much more is because they dont #have as good a union as set designers/stagehands/props artists/costumers/etc #and i know not everyone is doing this #but someone who reblogged one of my posts had this whole anti cgi tyraid that it felt like boiled down too #practical effects are better than cgi in every situation ever and movies used to achieve certain effects by being creative and just really #demonizing cgi and tbh I don't think thats the right approach #its like everything else. both have their strengths and weaknesses and an overreliance on one or the other is gonna hurt the final product

caved n started watching trigun stampede and it rly makes a world of a difference when you know what medium you're watching smth in.

like now that i know it's heavily stylized cg and not 2d i don't have a problem w it. it's when i don't know like w ep1 that i feel like I'm experiencing some uncanny valley shit and spend more time trying to figure out if it's 2d or 3d that i have a bad time. but as long as i know beforehand?? right on

#that being said if you haven't pls watch the new trigun #as someone who has never watched the original i am having a lot of fun #plus the art style is SO stylized that sometimes you can't even tell it's cgi #can honestly say I've never seen anything like it (artwise) before #((also e1 is kinda slow but everything after picks up the pace so give it until e2 to decide))#^ coming from someone who watched e1 a week ago and jus now blazed thru 2-4 today

the thing about severance s2 in regards to being very expensive + their use of CGI is that honestly there's a chance some of their more subtle use of CGI probably costs more than some Marvel feats of CGI

#using cgi and using cgi but not letting you notice it are two different things #and the second can be a lot harder to do #severance also just has really detailed sets + pays a lot of attention to stuff like costuming and general art direction #plus iirc s2 got delayed from the strikes #if there was shooting already scheduled and it had to be pushed back- those delays themselves couldve cost a lot of money #PLUS youve got some bigger names working on the show both in the cast and crew #the show having a large budget doesnt surprise me #ive said it before and ill say it again: people massively underestimate just how many people are on a set #and how much those people and all of their equipment and their travel expenses and everything else has to be covered if you're #doing it right

The problem with a lot of body horror for me is it's just gross without being compelling

Like yeah you had that person tear their leg open and pull muscle away from bone in a way that's very uncomfortable... but I don't care. Or a lot of Hostel style horror for me it's just kinda... yeah... grossing me out isn't some kinda win

Cause it's not that I don't like body horror, I love Dead Space for instance which... kinda the core pillar of that is body horror if we're honest

Could be a matter of that that kind of body horror is more fantastic making it easier to digest, I will advance that as a theory, but personally I kinda think that it's more that they do something actually interesting with it

Like if I wanted to I could probably see a really fucked up leg wound (and worse) in looking online about this shitty world

Can't really find dead bodies contorted into killing machines though

So I kinda feel like it's my problem with a lot of horror, of that it's horrible in a mundane way where as I'm looking for some unfathomable secret out of horror

So there's a difference between some stabbing a person in the eye cause they're just a shitty person, and doing it to try and create a replica of an alien artifact that gives unlimited energy but also drives people crazy and then turns their bodies into horrible monstrosities

One is just way more interesting to me

#also most of that shit looked stupid and goofy and like bad cgi #like yeah you managed to make some brutal looking stuff; congratz; I don't care about that #but the actual monster stuff you did just looked silly #bleh... glad I skipped my way through out of 10 kinda horror movie (ie almost every horror movie)#the only problem with Dead Space is that I can't play it cause ammo management stresses me the fuck out #you'd think it's because it's too scary #but no; it's cause it brings out my perfectionist where I need to make every shot hit perfectly #I don't do well with scarcity; too much in my own life #which means I don't do well with horror because by necessity things are scarce cause otherwise that's just a power fantasy #but also! it's hard for me to watch stuff like that cause I get bored real easily of watching people meander #also I don't want them talking #basically what I need to find is somebody that... let's be honest; that's a cinematic artist #knows how to collect everything with good pacing; knows how to win without making it too easy #this is my curse with Dead Space; in many ways it's one of my favorite bits of horror in the world #and yet I can hardly interact with it cause of how my brain is #maybe the real Dead Space was the dysfunctions we had along t he way #but nah... too much horror is screamy backrooms; not enough is MyHouse.wad (or whatever the Doom extension is)#which... is another thing I'll never play; but I got lucky and found a video that really nailed what I needed it to #which is funny cause I don't really enjoy anything else on the guy's channel; mostly cause he covers analog horror which...#I so want to like analog horror; but I never do; it always feels so bland #all of it has sparks of brilliance but then goes way too silly with it #horror is one of my favorite genre's; which is I guess why I hate all of it so much and I'm so so so so so so so picky #legit part of my problem is there's a very real extent to which I feel like 'if it doesn't drive me literally insane; what's the point?'#like; 'if I don't have a literal break with reality and become infested by madness from another world; is it even horror?'#which I gotta be honest; if it actually happened I wouldn't enjoy that much #I want some unknowable truth... horror makes me hungry for something I can't put my finger on #like a memory long since passed #but there's stuff I do end up liking and end up thinking is effective #mm tag so i can find things later

Alright so cold take, the Minecraft Movie looks fucking horrendous. It looks like a parody or an advert, not an actual movie people would want to make or watch.

Many others have said the same thing, but why the fuck isn't it an animated movie?? There are so many beautiful fucking art pieces made by fans or just look at the official Minecraft concept art!!

The world of Minecraft is so pretty and you could have so much artistic freedom to make a really fucking cool stylistic animated movie!!

But no.. We get white zionist Steve and in general just an irl cast for some reason, and ugly ass CGI.

Why can't it follow the minimal story Minecraft already has? The main character, whether it be Steve or someone else, wakes up with no explanation as to how they got there, and they juat have to survive. Minecraft has all these mysteries baked into the different worlds and structures, it would be so cool to have the movie explore them in some way!

I'm assuming this movie will just be "Hey, I'm white zionist Steve and I'll help you guys get back to your world" and the main content of the movie is gonna be the group of people experiencing Minecraft things, that we've already seen and know everything about, for the first time.

Idk man. I think people should boycott the movie because of the zionist in the main role and I don't think that'll be too difficult. Thanks if you read the whole thing <3
